Hosts England are going into the tournament with a lot of confidence and are aiming for the first major title in their history. The Lionesses are 4-1 in second place behind favorites Spain and the group stage has boosted morale. Norway will be tough opponents but England are expected to make it through the group with Austria, ranked at No. 21 in the world, and EURO debutants Northern Ireland.
England are also favored by the sheer strength of some other groups, meaning some strong contenders could be eliminated in the group stage. Current favorites Spain (15/4) meet Germany, who have won six of the last seven tournaments, and Denmark, who finished second at Euro 2017. The top two in this group meet the leaders from England’s group.
There are also some talented teams in Group C, with defending champions Netherlands and world number two Sweden taking on Switzerland and Portugal. These two teams will do everything in their power to win the group in order not to face the likely Group D winners, France, in the next round. France are the favorites for many to have a strong tournament this year and are currently third at 5/1, level with the Netherlands.
Looking at the odds for the tournament, it’s hard to get past favorites Spain. The Spaniards ended up in what is probably the toughest group, but they could make it to the top. They dominated their qualifying group, winning seven out of eight games, scoring 48 goals and conceding just one. They have an incredibly strong squad and of course 2021 Ballon d’Or winner and World Player of the Year Alexia Putellas. The Barcelona star netted 18 goals and 15 assists in the title-winning season and will be the one to watch out for at Euro 2022.
